Summary
Time limits must be adjustable, extendable, or removable. Otherwise users who read or type more slowly lose their work through no fault of their own. Exceptions are narrow — real-time auctions or timed exams, where the limit is essential.
Common failures
- Sessions expiring without warning, wiping out a partially completed form.
- Offering an extension prompt but only allowing a few seconds to respond to it.
